Kashmir Great Lakes Trek

It is one of the most popular trekking destination in Kashmir. It is a second coldest place on earth. The mesmerizing lakes and holy pilgrimage sites dotted with tiny wild flowers makes this journey a fascinated one. The perfect blend of nature, mesmerizing view and adventure activity makes Kashmir great lakes trek a unique experience. The best time to do Kashmir Great Lakes trek is from June to September. During this time, trekkers can enjoy the greenery with the mesmerizing view of the blooming flowers all around. It is situated in the Sonmarg region, the Kashmir Great lakes trekking trails offers a wide variety of activities and places for sightseeing.

Kashmir Great Lakes Trek

Day 1: Arrive at Sonamarg

Altitude: 7800 ft

Sonamarg is a famous hill station in the Ganderbal district. It attracts not just regular tourist but also adventure trekkers, climbers and mountaineers. The Kashmir Great Lake Trek is a unique trekking trail, it offers a unique diversity of landscapes.

 

Day 2: Sonamarg to Nichnai via Shekdur

Altitude: 11,500 ft

The Kashmir Great Lake trekking starts from Sonamarg to Nichnai. Sonamarg is also famous for Amarnath Yatra. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and capture the beautiful Sonamarg Valley. For adventure trekkers who wants to enjoy adventure camping at the hill station, this base camp is ideal destination.

The trail enters a green meadow and overlooks the beautiful hemlet. After half hour accent, you are at the top of the meadow.  Trekkers can see the Maple and pine trees forest. Trekking trail continue to Shekdur campsite surrounded by Bhoj trees. Get ready for the pictures and enjoy the happy moments at the campsite.

Had lunch and trek continue to Nichnai. The trekking trail is from the meadows for half an hour then goes down and accent back to a river valley. The beginning of the Nichnai campsite, look back and capture the view of the snow clad peaks of Sonamarg valley. Reach Nichnai and camp here for the night.

 

Day 3: Nichnai to Vishansar lake (1200 ft) via Nachnai Pass

Altitude: 1200 ft

Trek starts from Nichnai to Vishansar lake, through the beautiful meadows. Kashmir great lake trek is undoubtly the most scenic trek in India. This campsite welcomes the trekkers with a beautiful lake. The trail offers lush green meadows, beautiful lakes and the view of the best peaks. Descends rapidly to the rocky trails, the beautiful trail offers red flowers all around.

Stop here and see the mesmerizing view of the flowery meadows, lakes and majestic peaks. A few hours walk to Vishansar lake, you will reach at campsite.

 

Day 4: Acclimatization 

The Kashmir Great lakes trek takes you through different landscape and it truly spectacle to look out for. Trekkers can explore the area around and prepare for the next day.

Day 5: Vishansar lake to Gadsar via Gadsar Pass

Altitude: 13,750 ft

It is moderately challenging trek in Indian Himalaya and is most serene part of Kashmir. Day 5 is the longest day of the Kashmir great lakes trek. The trek starts from Vishansar lake towards its sibling Krishasar lake. Trekkers can also see the glimpse of three Gadsar Lakes.

The trek ascends to the Gadsar pass, it is clearly shown from Krishasar. You can also catch the glimpse of the crystal blue water and snow clad mountains in the background.

Day 6: Gadsar Pass to Satsar (12,00 ft)  :Kashmir Great Lakes Trek

Having breakfast and ascend towards meadows of Rasbal. The Kashmir Great lakes is a combination of different valleys. This is the easiest day of this trek. It has many attractions and offers a bouquet of 11 alpine lakes.

We continue our trekking trail through seven small lake of Satsar. The Satsar lake is located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Day 7: Satsar to Gangabal Twin lakes via Zaj Pass

The trekking trail starts from Satsar to Gangabal. This is a final pass of the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek. Trekkers the enjoy the view of the various lake are Krishnasar, Vishnusar, Gadsar, Nandkol and Gangabal. It is a moderate level trek and best for fit first timers and experienced trekkers.

From the top of the last Gangabal Pass, you can see the two beautiful alpine lakes (Gangabal and Nundkol ) and the beautiful camp Mount Haramukh (5300 m). Nundkol campsite is the last campsite of this trek.

Day 8: Gangbal to Naranag (7450 ft), Drive to Srinagar

After having breakfast, it will be time to take an excursion towards Naranag. Trek goes through the deodar and Pine trees. Kashmir great lakes trek is among the most beautiful trekking routes in Himalaya. Reach Naranag and visit the Naga Temple built in the 8th century. Drive back to Srinagar, night stay in the hotel.

Day 3: Nichnai to Vishansar lake via Nachnai Pass

Day 4: Acclimatization

Day 5: Vishansar lake to Gadsar via Gadsar Pass

We are group of 12 people and complete Kashmir Great Lakes Trek with Himalayan Climber. They were outstanding in their work. This is one of the most beautiful trekking place I have ever seen on Earth.
