Trekkers may see the melted water of Nanda Devi group of glaciers and then form RishiGanga river which then takes the form of Dhauli Ganga at a place (Raini). The Nanda Devi group of glaciers has seven other glaciers called Kururntoli, Bartoli, Ramani, Nandakna, Trishul, Nandadevi North and Nanda Devi South. Although the trail to the Nanda Devi Base Camp is difficult, the majestic view of the glaciers, pine forest and rivers will make you spellbound.

Day 1 – Kathgodam to Munsyari
Distance – 277 km
Altitude – 1829 ft
Route – Kathgodam – Almora – Bagheshwar – Munsyari
Drive from Kathgodam to Munsyari in a cab. The splendid views of Himalayan peaks will surely make you fresh and convivial. You will reach Munsyari around 7 pm. Munsyari name refers to a “Place with snow” and is also called Little Kashmir. It is a beautiful hamlet, a tehsil in the Pithoragarh District in the hill state of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated on the banks of Gori Ganga river. Munsyari is famous for its astounding views of the animals and birds like Leopard, Mask Dear, Falon and Serpent-eagle. Legends said that the Pandavas had set out for their final journey to heaven from Munsyari. Tourist attractions in Munsyari- Birthifall, Betulidhar, Panchachula Peak, Darkot Pass, Maheshwarikund, Nanda Devi Temple, Madkot village and Khaliya Top.
Day 2 – Munsyari to Lilam
Distance – 7 km
Altitude – 7171ft
The Nandadevi base camp trek starts from the base camp Munsyari. It is famous for its spectacular nature. The permit is needed from the SDM office in Munsyari then make 2 xerox copies of National ID and photographs and drop off at the ITBP check post where it is stamped and one copy will be given to you. Without the stamp, you will not be allowed to go. The trek descends to the Gori Ganga and the Gori Ganga river welcomes you with the loud sound.

Day 3 – Lilam to Bogudiar
Distance – 12 km
Altitude – 6033 ft
The Nandadevi base camp trekking trail is a steep climb up to Bogudiar and passes through the conifer, various trees and various waterfalls. Trekkers may see the confluence of Ralam River and Gori Ganga. The Nandadevi base camp trail is full of enthusiasm with the stunning views of surrounding mountains, green landscapes and grazing sheep and goats at the meadows of Bogudiar. Day 4 – Bogudiar to Railkot
Distance – 12 km
Altitude – 8128 ft
The trail continues along the Gori Ganga and passes through the beautiful meadows. There are beautiful waterfalls on the way to Railkot, one is called Grampani where you can soak your tired feet. A couple of cottages for refreshment and you can fill water bottles from here then climb up to Railkot. Stay overnight in tents.
Day 5 – Railkot to Ghanghar
Distance – 13 km
Altitude – 10339 ft
Railkot is a small hamlet. The trail starts from Railkot to Ghanghar, you can get the astounding view of the Nanda Devi East. This place is like a paradise for the trekkers. With every step towards Pachu Glacier, trekkers can get the clear view of Nanda Devi Peak. After a few minutes walk through the fresh green birch forests, you will reach Pochu Glacier. Day 7 – Exploring the Nanda Devi East Base Camp
Altitude – 13500 ft

Day 8 – Pachu Glacier to Martoli
Distance – 17 km

We begin a downward Pachu Glacier along the Indo-Tibet border. The trail gives you epic sight till Martoli. Martoli is a small hamlet in Munsyari Block in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Trekkers may enjoy the spectacular view of the Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot. Overnight stay in Martoli.
Day 9 – Martoli to Rargari
Distance – 20 km
Altitude – 11,112 ft
Return back Ragari and again you will get the opportunity to capture the beautiful places in memory forever. The steep descends till Rargari through the scenic perfection of Nandadevi base camp trekking trail spread all around.
Day 10 – Rargari to Munsyari
Distance – 20 km
A vehicle for the return journey to Munsyari. Arrive at Munsyari by afternoon. Stay in the guest house.
Day 11 – Munsyari to Kathgodam
Distance – 296 km
Back to kathgodam, while marvelling the sights of Kumaon’s mountain range. You will reach Kathgodam at around 7 pm.

WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO DO BEFORE GOING TO TREK?
Prepare your body-
- Running, Walk, Running
Running & Walking is the easiest and best for good health and trekking. Since the daunting of trekking & climbing requires long hours of public walk, ride, or drive, you must practice running or walking ablest one hour daily. Long walks during trekking make you tired those times and walk increase your fitness levels.
The benefits of running-
- Loosing of extra pounds weight
- Lower risk of heart problem
- Improve and balance blood circulation
- Increase stamina
- Walking with solder-load or weighted bag
Since trekking requires long time walks with a bag 5 kilos on your solder, a sudden weight on your shoulders. Put 5-6 kilos bag and try to walk 2-3 minutes and repeat this 10 times in 24 hours. If you have weight vest the try to run if you have not weighted vest the fill your bag with some books and wasted newspaper to weight.
- Climb stairs Up & Down
A mandatory aspect of trekking is ascending and descending trek. Ascend and descend walking is the most difficult tasks one faces during such trekking. For fitness practice, you regularly climb stairs. Regular climbing stair provides stronger muscles and better mental reflexes. Every day 5-10 minutes of stair climbing or 45 min walk or 20 min running reduces the risk of heart problem and increasing your stamina.
- Leg Exercises
Sports like football and hockey which involve running can be the best exercise. Cycling is also best exercise to boost up your muscles. You also follow leg exercises.

Repeat those exercises 2-3 time in a day to prepared for trekking in Himalayas.
- Mental and physiological fitness
